Very nice place for a guided hike.

About the closest to a via ferrata you will find in Ireland. Slightly adventurous path for those not used to it at all, but from a sportive perspective rather boring for mountaineers. The landscape and views are great though and still worth it. Downside is that you need to go for a guided tour here.

Islandmagee is steeped in history and features rolling hills, quiet villages and a dramatic coastline. Its great cycling, for such a small wee Island it packs a punch, with vistas at every turn. You can walk the spectacular limestone cliffs of the Gobbins or stroll along the sandy beach at Brown’s Bay. Spot seals and seabirds by the harbour of Portmuck. And take in the views across the Irish Sea at Skernaghan, Islandmagee’s northernmost point.

The guides open and close the entrance with a thick steel chain. You can't get in here without a guide. Visitor groups are strictly limited to 15 people per tour.

Yes, the region offers several shorter and less strenuous trails perfect for a family outing. A great option is The Gobbins Entrance Gate – The Tubular Bridge loop from Islandmagee. It's a relatively short walk that still provides a fantastic taste of the area's famous cliffside scenery without a major time commitment.
Many trails in the wider Antrim Coast and Glens region are suitable for walking with dogs, but they should be kept on a lead, especially near farmland and cliff edges. For a specific route, consider the Blackhead Lighthouse loop from Whitehead Excursion, which offers a good walk with coastal views where you can enjoy the scenery with your canine companion.
The area is a designated Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI) because of its unique Cretaceous sedimentary rocks. As you hike, you're walking through a landscape noted for its greenish glauconite sands and fossil-rich layers. For more detailed information on the local geology, you can consult the official DAERA website.
The weather can change quickly, so dressing in layers is essential. Always include a waterproof and windproof jacket. Sturdy hiking boots with good grip are a must, as coastal paths and stone steps can become slippery when wet. Even on a clear day, it's wise to pack for potential rain.
