Karlshöhe Ludwigsburg was founded by Protestant Christians in 1876, modeled after the Rauhen Haus in Hamburg, as a Protestant institute for brothers and children, and has been run as a foundation since 1878. The namesake is the Württemberg King Karl, who, together with his wife Olga, took over the patronage of Karlshöhe. For decades, the training of "brothers", the later deacons and since 1971 deaconesses, was a fundamental task; today it is the calling to the diaconate. The nursing home am Salon was added to the children's home just three years later. In addition to child and youth welfare and elderly care, numerous other diaconal services for people with disabilities and for people with social and psychological difficulties have been established to this day.

On the southern edge, in the direction of Kornwestheim, lies the Salonwald, a forest area of 12 hectares, slightly off the beaten path. In the past, the present-day forest was part of the baroque park of Eberhard Ludwig. At that time, however, it was not yet a forest, but a pleasure grove designed with plants, which even had a maze. Only 150 years later, through afforestation, the present-day deciduous forest with maples, beeches, and oaks gradually emerged. Today, the Salonwald is a local recreation area.

In the 1960s, the population in Ludwigsburg grew above average – and with it the demand for drinking water. To meet this demand, a water tower was built in 1969 in Salonwald, at the highest point and in a central location. Due to its elevated position, the water reaches households without technical aids, with a water pressure of 2.5 bar.

The hammer mill, which was acquired by the city of Kornwestheim at the end of 2008, offers demonstrations by prior arrangement. These demonstrations vividly illustrate how iron was shaped and worked, and how, many years ago, tools were produced at this very location that made everyday life easier.

Unfortunately, the Kneipp pool is no longer a Kneipp pool. Recently there was often very little water and when there was, it was very warm in the summer. There were also lots of amphibians. For nature conservation reasons, it has now been converted into a natural pond. It is fenced off. When I get the chance, I will attach photos of this no-longer highlight here.
