So, I headed to Tortworth Lake in Jan, on a Monday. TOTALLY wrong time!! So, I took a wander in the woods nearby. It's really pretty, but I noted that Komoot didn't have a pathway. So, I'm adding this because it's worth an explore, especially if you plan on a walk round the lake & it's closed!

**PLEASE NOTE** Entrance to the Tortworth Lake / Estate grounds is ONLY available on the FIRST SUNDAY of each month from February to the end of October!! (I wish I'd known that before this mess of a hike. In January. On a Monday ππ€£). Opening times vary depending on the month, but it is only open on the first Sunday of each month. See photo here for the opening times (and a screenshot from the website). If you DO head here on a different day, the woodland nearby IS really stunning, so it is still worth a walk π₯°β¨οΈ

Gorgeous little Boardwalk in the woods! And (weirdly!) part of the reason I love hiking in Lower Woods N.R. - I'd been here about 5 times before, if not more, but I'd never seen this little boardwalk! There are so many interconnecting paths & always a new route to explore.

Just through the little woodland, there's a stile which leads to a bridge over the stream. The old mill is the other side of this bridge (depending which way you're coming). Then, there's Sodam Mill Lane to walk down, which is lovely in itself.

watch out for woodland clearances in the south because of Ash Dieback, can look like you're on another planet with the trees that used to be searching for light, now bathed in it. The river crossing itself can be a bit treacherous in winter or after any decent spell of rain. If I didn't have the big metal cleat in my shoes I'm sure I never would've made it up the bank.
