From Radstadt to Untertauern you can drive quickly, from Untertauern onwards things really get going! It's better to leave very early because of the traffic...

The church is located in the Radstädter Tauern just below the Radstädter Tauern Pass on the Pongau side next to the Wisenegg Tauernhaus in Obertauern. As early as 1124 there was a small church, the Peterskirchlein, on the top of the pass next to today's Tauernfriedhof. Berthold Pürstinger, Bishop of Chiemsee and Auxiliary Bishop of Salzburg, came up to this little church of St. Peter in the winter of 1515 in the extreme cold, snow and wind to reconcile (reconsecrate) it. The reason for this is not known, but it is assumed that this reconsecration became necessary due to a sacrilege in the church. Twice, in 1597 and 1616, the residents of the area had to complain to Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau and Markus Sittikus von Hohenems before Archbishop Paris Count Lodron finally had a new building built on the present site in 1620. This construction was carried out according to the plans of the master builder Santino Solari. Source: wikipedia
