An Augustinian Priory until dissolution in 1556 - much of the original buildings still remain. Well worth a stop and walk around the grounds.

Great Waltham is a pretty Essex village with a history that stretches back to Roman times. There is a decent pub, a village shop and some interesting architecture, including the Grade I-listed Church of St Mary and St Lawrence, the Elizabethan guildhall, and a Grade I-listed house called Langley's.

An excellent real pub and home of the infamous Huffer sandwich. Covered bike parking (Sheffield Stands) to the rear of the pub

Lovely pub. The perfect place to plan a stop on a long bike ride. There is a very large beer garden at the back where you can easily bring your bike with you.
