The restaurant is closed, which is no wonder

In recent years, visiting this place has become a mixed bag. The food can be good, but it's not always guaranteed. The restaurant has changed hands frequently, and each owner tries something different. And that doesn't always work. But the good news is: coffee and a beachy vibe are always available in the summer.

I love this castle! I am happy that it can be visited freely and there is less interference from posterity than in the case of other larger castles in the area. ... there will be good summer programs for sure and I will also award the creative exhibition... Wheelbarrows!😄👍

A castle with history... We were unable to see the exhibition this time due to time constraints, but we will of course do so later, but we enjoyed the castle and its aura. A beautiful place where you can enjoy the view.

Güssing Castle is the oldest castle in Burgenland; it was built on an extinct volcano. Unfortunately, cycling is prohibited within the wall, so there is a “bicycle parking lot” to the right in front of the entrance.

The oldest castle in Burgenland, built in 1157 as a fortification, sits enthroned on a long-extinct volcanic cone. After several changes of ownership, it came into the possession of the Battyány family in 1524. To ward off dangers from the east, it was expanded into a brick-walled fortress in the 16th and 17th centuries. With the loss of its strategic importance, the castle was abandoned to decay in the 18th century, as the "roof tax" of that time made maintenance unaffordable for the owner. It has been owned by a foundation since 1870. After extensive restoration work, the castle is now in the same condition as it was 200 years ago.

"Our castle" - as a resident of the area, I can say that;) Absolutely worth seeing. And very special and unusual - really spooky - in the evening and night hours, when the castle shines in pink, purple, red light. Then the restaurant is closed and the elevator is out of order, but who knows, maybe you will meet the castle ghost? ;)
