Although most riders finish King Alfred’s Way in Winchester, I wrapped up my journey in Reading—making this stunning Ridgeway section into Streatley one of my final and most memorable stretches. The open chalk track offers incredible views over the Thames Valley, followed by a flowing descent into Streatley & Goring—an ideal place to pause, refuel, and take in the last big skies before rolling to the end. 🚴♂️ Fast but rideable chalk descent (even in damp conditions), watch for walkers and ruts. 📍 Café and rest stop options in Streatley/Goring.

The Black Horse pub is a very worthy visit on any tour. A traditional family-run pub that gives a real sense of stepping back in time. A real fire, a real ale, honest food and a warm welcome are on offer here.

This is an enjoyable off-road track past Wyfold Court and Silver Birch Forest. Be mindful if riding after rain, as the ground can get quite slippery when wet.

great place for a pit stop, either in the old pub or in the barn

The pub is a great place to stop for food and drink on your run. What makes this one particularly special, aside from the good food, is the view that you get from the outside here of the beautiful Chiltern hills in the area. They've placed some benches on the opposite side of the road: just sit down and enjoy!

Unique (and haunting) local sculpture. Need to come off the tarmac road and push your bike towards the dilapidated barn.

Hard to know when it's open but even if it's shut the view is wonderful
