Don't know why Komoot says cycling not permitted here as it is a designated Bridleway.

Lovely bridleway. Heading south starts as gravel, then grass, then fields then wood. Fields and wood can be difficult to pass in winter

Built to supply water to the nearby Grand Union Canal, Welford and Sulby Reservoirs are wonderfully scenic. Keep your eyes peeled for carp beneath the surface. A loop of Welford Reservoir is an easy walk from nearby Welford, where there are also peaceful walking options along the canal.

These loops take you through the rolling Northamptonshire countryside, often combining farmland, quiet lanes, and sections of long-distance paths. A good example of a moderate circular route is the Hiking loop from Winwick, which offers rewarding views from the surrounding hills.
Definitely. There are several shorter, easier walks that are perfect for a family outing. These routes generally stick to flatter terrain and are manageable for little legs. For a gentle introduction to the area, consider the Hiking loop from Cold Ashby, which is an easy walk of about 4 miles (6.7 km) through the fields near the village.
Yes, the area is generally dog-friendly. However, many routes cross active farmland with livestock, so it's essential to keep your dog on a lead and under control. For more open space, Harlestone Firs Forest Walk is a popular local spot with numerous trails where dogs can often explore more freely.
The landscape is known for its tranquil waterside scenery, particularly around the Welford and Sulby Reservoirs. You'll also find routes that take you up gentle inclines like Honey Hill and into the Hemplow Hills, which are highly-regarded for their panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
Several routes pass through or near villages that have traditional pubs, which are perfect for a mid-hike break or a meal afterwards. For example, some trails pass near Sibbertoft, where you can find the Red Lion pub. It's always a good idea to check opening times in advance, especially on weekdays.
For walks beginning in the village itself, you can usually find on-street parking. Please be considerate of residents when you park. For routes starting elsewhere, such as those around the reservoirs or other trailheads, there may be small, dedicated parking areas available.
There is a wide variety of options, with over 100 hiking routes mapped in the area. These range from short, easy loops to more challenging moderate hikes, ensuring there's a trail for every fitness level and interest.
