September 8, 2025, The Bold Forester Pub & Shop

pub with a small shop with fruit, drinks, ice cream, coffee, shop hours 9am until 6, pub hours midday until 11pm, if you'd like something from the shop after hours, ask in the pub and they'll get it for you, great place, friendly staff and the food and beer in the pub is very good

A really nice varied route. The fast majority of it is really wide too. Very quiet on an overcast autumn week day.

November 21, 2024, Henry Cort Way

A unique feature of NCN 224 is the Henry Cort Way, which stretches from Fareham to Gosport. This former railway line has been repaved to serve as a busway, so cyclists share the path with buses but not cars. At just 38 miles, it makes for a relaxed Saturday ride to the coast, with the added convenience of a railway station at the Alton starting point.

A straight well surfaced tarmac route through wooded areas, shared by buses and cyclists. You can follow this trail almost the entire way back to the Gosport Ferry Terminal.

This was on the last leg of the King Alfred’s Way for me and was one of the few descents in the whole trip i walked, dry conditions but on a loaded gravel - the descent was more treacherous than i was prepared to risk / but amazing views from the top and a fast through the fields ride from the bottom.
