St. Nicolai Church in Wiedensahl is an Evangelical Lutheran church with a rich history dating back to around 1000 AD. Originally, a chapel stood on the site, which was expanded in 1275 with a nave and tower made of fieldstone and sandstone. After the old chapel was demolished in 1516, the nave was expanded to include the chancel and confessional. The church features a beautiful altar from 1699 depicting the Last Supper, framed by columns decorated with wheat and grape motifs. The pulpit, dating from 1675, is decorated with figures of the four evangelists, and the baptismal font, dating from 1672, was made by the same craftsman. The organ, built in 1974, incorporates elements of an older instrument dating from 1717. The church bells, dating from 1521 and 1693, were restored in 2007, with new wooden yokes and repairs to missing parts. The parish of St. Nicolai is known for its strong musical tradition, which includes a renowned handbell choir that has achieved international recognition.

I was amazed by this huge collection of beautiful boulders. All carefully placed. And then there's the great barbecue hut in the middle. Hats off to what the people here have created.

This building originally stood elsewhere and was used to keep pigs. The stable was later moved to a new pasture. Today you can rest perfectly on a dry wooden bench at the stable.

What's exciting about this vantage point isn't necessarily the view itself, as the small town of Wiedensahl is only faintly visible, but rather its historical connection to a celebrity: Wilhelm Busch grew up in Wiedensahl and made many drawings from his surroundings. That's probably exactly where he stood when he wrote down his view of his birthplace on paper.
