When commuting by bike in the UK, it's essential to be prepared for sudden weather changes. Carrying a lightweight, packable waterproof jacket can protect you from unexpected rain showers without adding bulk to your ride. Additionally, fitting your bike with mudguards will shield you from road spray, keeping you drier and more comfortable. These simple additions can make your daily ride more pleasant, regardless of the weather. Part of NCN route 2, this is a pleasant traffic-free section of cycling through Royal Victoria Country Park. It features a historic chapel perched on the shores of Southampton Water. The Chapel was once at the heart of the Royal Victoria Military Hospital. The hospital building was demolished in 1966 and now only the Chapel remains. There's a kiosk in the chapel selling a range of hot and cold drinks, snacks and ice creams.

Site of the old military hospital: the old chapel survives as a visitor centre (you can go up the tower), there are children's play areas, a miniature railway and lots of flat gentle walks. You have to pay to park the car but walkers and cyclists get in free.
