To add a further highlight to the highest point in the Baltics, an impressive observation tower was built here. It features an elevator that takes visitors to the top.

Art on the Great Egg Mountain, the highest mountain in the Baltics. Several installations here provide a framework for a variety of views of the landscape. Because they're rotatable, they're universally applicable.

Day 8. A 390km day driving day from the University city of Tartu in Estonia to the castle town of Cesis in Latvia. On the way I learned from a smart arse that 55% of the roads in Latvia are gravel tracks. That’s over 11,000k’s worth of gravel and today we found at least 200 kilometres worth. En route today we had a ‘look see’ at opulent Cesvain Palace before going on to hike…sorry…have a lazy amble up the highest point in Estonia (Suur Munamagi 318m) and Latvia (Gaizinkalns 311m). If both hikes had a combined height of over 100m I’d be lying but they all count. World Country High Points no’s 26 & 27 done 😇.

The official path to the top has stairs. When on a bike, take a small roundtrip to the northern side of the hill. The road there is usually closed with a barrier, but you can slip around it with a bike (the road is really only closed for cars). And then you can ride to the very top. Be warned though, it's a mighty steep ascent. Like 20% or so.

Quite long track with 7 or 8 kicker jumps. Curvy roots in the steeper bottom part.
