One of the world's most significant discoveries from the Viking Age was made in 1904 just outside Tønsberg; namely the discovery of the now-famous Oseberg ship. The ship is 21.5 meters long.

Oseberg Vikingarv Tønsberg has built an archaeological replica of this ship. During construction, only tools and building methods identical to those used in the construction of the original ship in the Viking Age were employed. You can visit the copy of the Oseberg ship at Vikingodden in the harbour of Tønsberg. The original ship is exhibited at the Viking Ship Museum on Bygdøy in Oslo.
