When in 1625, according to the legal principle "Cuius regio, eius religio", a Catholic priest was to be installed in the Protestant parish of Frankenburg, an armed uprising broke out. It ended with the ringleaders being sentenced to death. Half of them were pardoned: two of them had to dice for their lives, the losers were hung on the spot. This place was the Haushamerfeld in Pfaffing, which at that time belonged to the county of Frankenburg, hence the name Frankenburger dice game. A memorial today commemorates the cruel and grisly events.

Very beautiful late Gothic church with a winged altar that is well worth seeing

In the parish church of Gampern is a special jewel: a carved winged altar from the period around 1500. With the wings of the altar open, we see three life-size figures in the shrine: Bishop Remigius, the patron saint of the church, Mary as Queen of Heaven with the Infant Jesus in her arms, and the helpers and martyr Pantaleon. The wing reliefs depict scenes from the life of Mary: the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity and the Presentation in the Temple.
