Very good to walk long path with fields on one side and a narrow forest on the other.

Herzele station is a railway station along railway line 89 (Denderleeuw - Kortrijk) in the municipality of Herzele. The station is part of the S-network around Brussels. Since October 2012, the station's ticket offices have been closed, and it has become a stop. Tickets for all kinds of journeys can be purchased at the ticket vending machine or through other sales channels. The railway link between Denderleeuw and Kortrijk was established in 1868 after the government granted a concession five years earlier to a certain Isidore Neelemans. The construction of the line and the stations was entrusted to the Société Belge de Chemins de Fer (Societe Belge de Chemins de Ferr). The design of all stations on the line was identical and based on the Westmeerbeek station building, built in 1863 on the Leuven-Herentals line. The station is understated, with a high central section under a gable roof. (Wikipedia)

Herzele Castle is a ruin of a moated castle, built in the course of the 11th century. It was the residence of the lords of Herzele and has been a protected monument since 1957. The castle was destroyed and rebuilt several times. In 1579, after destruction by the Spaniards, it was not rebuilt due to a lack of funds of the then residents, Prince Willem d'Espinoy and Ernestine van Arenberg. The ruin was sold, one tower was retained to assert the right of privilege. Restoration in 1972.

A diamond-shaped wooden post chapel attached to a concrete post, containing a decoratively carved wooden cross with an inscription "1931-1993" at the base of the shaft. The cross is crowned with a lily. A detached statue of Christ sits in the front right corner. A wooden kneeler stands in front of the cross. A memorial cross was already marked at this location on a topographical map from 1884. Source: https://inventaris.onroerenderfgoed.be/erfgoedobjecten/216022
