Opposite the entrance to the Halve Maan stands the Lindenmolen. an old windmill. It used to grind in Assent and on the Doodsberg in Schaffen. The last generation of millers donated the mill to the city of Diest and since then it has been standing here to show off.

The name and origin of the Halve Maan in Diest date back to the 19th century. The area originated as a military defense work (a lunette or ravelin with a crescent-shaped structure) that was part of the defense belt to protect the city. On May 5, 1961, the location officially opened its doors as an outdoor swimming pool and recreational area.

As early as 1322, a mill was reported at this location. It was a ban-mill, belonging to the Sint-Jansberg monastery located in Zelem. As there were also several mills in Halen belonging to the lords of Halen, this caused problems, as these were also ban-mills. In 1411, the farmers were released from the obligation to have their grain ground in Halen. The mill was repeatedly rebuilt. In 1902, it was set on fire out of revenge by a beggar who was turned away from the mill. The current building dates from 1904, when the mill was rebuilt. In 1945, the mill was enlarged. Around 1960, an electric motor was installed. The mill, owned by the Decoster family since 1853, was taken out of operation in 1976 but has been well maintained since then. In 2008, a fish ladder was built. The lock system is still present, but the lock was removed in 1975. The mill buildings are made of brick. The metal undershot wheel, from around 1940, is still present, but it is bricked up and can no longer turn. The internal mechanism, however, is still present.

This church was built in 1767 and was served by the Sint-Jansberg monastery in Zelem. It is a neoclassical brick hall church with a built-in, square, west tower, which is covered by a tapered spire. In addition to brick, iron sandstone was used for the base and limestone for the portal, sills, and the like. In 1938-1939, two side chapels were added.
