Very beautiful hike, but the highlights look different now due to the persistent drought.

A very large forest with various amenities, including a tea room and restaurant. There's also a herb garden and a farm where you can buy ice cream.

Approximately 45 km between Ghent and Bruges. It's flat and the track is safe. Ideal for enjoying it with a few stops for drinks and food.

Only a very short distance leads to the shore. Things used to be different: until about ten years ago, people were still swimming freely here (even after it was actually banned). There was even a long rope hanging from one of the trees, from which people swung into the water. Now, almost the entire shore is private property... but that doesn't stop you from enjoying the view to the fullest. Maaigemdijk was always one of my favorite spots (and I certainly wasn't the only one who loved it... and still do).
