Only cycle path so watch out for oncoming traffic, the slope of the bridge is perfect

The gate also serves as a bridge over the Kalebeek stream. The north facade of the gate (facing the church) features, in addition to the date 1864, the coat of arms of the t'Kint de Roodenbeke family, who acquired the castle that year (and still own it).

Unlike the right bank, there's no pedestrian lane along the verge here. The fact that you can reach "Eiland" (the street that turns into a pedestrian path) and then the small island in the Schipdonk Canal from here is a plus that the right bank doesn't have :-)

For now, pedestrians and cyclists have to make do with a narrow section of the railway bridge (if a cyclist approaches, it's best to stand aside), but a large sign announces that a real pedestrian and cyclist bridge will be built in 2026... thanks to the Province of East Flanders, the City of Deinze, and Europe.

Until before corona, the old Leie arm was the swimming spot and picnic of locals, unfortunately the new visitors who flock there with picnic baskets, inflatable animals, music boxes, do not respect the fauna and beauty (not their hometown??) and leave behind dirt and empty bottles. and plastic behind, the water birds and other animals are increasingly rare to see
