Lac des Doyards is an 11-hectare lake located in the heart of Vielsalm. The dam was built in 1978 as a weir on the Salm and was originally intended to serve as a buffer in the event of a flood. Like many bodies of water in Wallonia, Lac des Doyards never truly fulfilled this role and today has an exclusively recreational purpose. The depth varies from 90 cm at the entrance to the Salm to 6 to 7 m at the dam. The lake is managed by Ourthe et Somme, which has entrusted the fisheries management of the site to “La Salmiote”, which offers its anglers the opportunity to fish in both enclosed waters and rivers. Salm. This name reminds us that the Salm was once a fantastic salmon river, so much so that the town it crosses, Vielsalm, also with its suggestive name, chose this fish for its coat of arms. Even if the salmon no longer frequent the currents and pools of the Salm, the Salm remains an incomparable salmon river, very well populated with grayling and trout. (LaSalmiote)
