Briek Schotte is sometimes called "The last real Flandrien". The word 'Flandrien' was originally a swear word for the Flemish seasonal workers in Wallonia and Northern France: rough guys, perseverers, not afraid of anything. Later, the word took on a completely different color in the cycling world and was included in the Dikke Van Dale: "a cyclist who, in addition to great physical strength, is characterized by the ability to maintain his fighting spirit in unfavorable (weather) conditions, and is therefore extremely suitable for riding the Flemish spring classics."

The mill is currently for sale. In recent years, only the first (dismantling) phase of the renovation was finally carried out.

Round stone tower mill. In the mid-17th century, there was a corn mill of the post mill type here. It was owned by the lord of the lordship of Hames (one of the two lordships in Kanegem, next to Beexchen). In 1736, a new post mill was built. In 1836, this was placed on a tower house, which made it possible to also operate the mill as an oil mill. In 1843, the mill was destroyed by fire. A stone mill was then built. This initially functioned as a corn and oil mill, but in 1894 the oil section was removed. A steam engine was also installed at that time, and in 1930 this was replaced by an electric motor. In 1954, the wind operation was stopped and only occasionally was milled by wind. The mill fell into disrepair and in 1970 it was in poor condition. Several subsequent owners carried out external restorations and in 2008 a definitive restoration began. However, financial resources were scarce, but after a grant was awarded, the work could continue from 2016 to 2018. Source: Wikipedia
