The Kloosterbos is a nature reserve in the north of East Flanders and is divided between Zelzate and Wachtebeke. It is, just like the Heidebos and the Stropersbos, one of the last remnants of what was once an extensive forest and heathland area from Maldegem to Stekene. Most of the trees in the current forest have been planted in the last 200 years, before that it was mainly heathland, as can be clearly seen on the Ferraris map. A number of zones in the forest have been set up as play forests. The forest has had the FSC label since June 2010.

The Langenwegel, which can be translated in Flemish as "long road", is a narrow gravel path northwest of Evergem. It is a winding country road that meanders through the countryside and is bordered by green fields with a stream on the left. Halfway along the straight path you will come across a few bends with a bridge to cross a ditch.

These two creeks were washed out in the winter of 1808 - 1809. An ideal stop to press the pause button. Rest benches invite you to enjoy the play of many water birds.

Grote and Kleine Kilkreek are an ideal stop for a picnic or to take a rest. These are remnants of soil washed away as a result of medieval storms that broke the dikes. The dikes were restored and the creeks are silent witnesses in the landscape. Don't forget your binoculars because you can spot many water birds here.
