Unfortunately, there are no more green paths in the vicinity. Let's leave this one rough and not pave it, please.

The bridgehead of the Ronde van Vlaanderenbrug on the Trakelweg side is popular as a sports location. Almost daily, people exercising - with or without a personal coach - can be found here. Edward Houpline, sports coach and owner of EDE Sport and Movement, a frequent user of the location himself, submitted a proposal to give the bridgehead some color, using the urban project subsidy 'Paint your city'. For this, he collaborated with street artists LA.KUS (Koksijde) and KIEWIE.9000 (Gent). The artworks - realized in the spring of 2023 - are a nod to the Leie river and sporting activities. The Sint-Pietersbrugje dates back to 1892. In 2019-2020, it underwent a very thorough restoration, during which it had to be dismantled and taken to the workshop, where it was carefully cleaned and sandblasted. Furthermore, some parts were replaced and manually riveted. The entire structure incorporates no fewer than 1,000 rivets. Finally, the bridge also received a protective coat of paint in striking Brunswick green, the original colour of the bridge. Source: vlaamsewaterweg.be

The Koutermolen is a wooden post mill that stood from the early 19th century until 1982, about 300 meters from its current location. Fate struck twice: in 1892, the mill burned down completely, and in 1917, the Germans demolished the newly constructed mill to build an airfield. After the First World War, the Deerlijk State Mill was moved to the site of the Koutermolen. In 1948, the mill stopped operating and fell into disrepair. The Province of West Flanders purchased it in 1978 for the symbolic sum of one franc with the aim of restoring it and transferring it to the De Gavers Provincial Estate. It was fully restored according to the building plan of the old Koutermolen. The restored Koutermolen was inaugurated on September 19, 1987. Thirty years later, a thorough renovation of the outer shell was again necessary. The mill was fully restored in 2021. The mill was officially opened in April 2022 and stands proudly on its 7-meter-high mound, a guardian of the estate. Source: westvlaanderen.be
