The Valle Cavanata Nature Reserve is a protected area of exceptional natural value located in the eastern part of the Grado lagoon. Formerly used as a fishing valley, it is today a wetland of international importance (Ramsar Site) dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity. The heart of the reserve is a vast brackish lagoon surrounded by reed beds and hygrophilous woods, which serves as a refuge and stopover area for thousands of migratory birds, including the famous pink flamingos and numerous species of ducks. Accessible via flat paths and cycle paths, the reserve offers several observation huts for birdwatching, allowing you to immerse yourself in a silence broken only by the calls of the fauna, a few kilometers from the sea.

The port of Grado, nicknamed the "water lounge", is the beating heart of the historic center and penetrates deeply into the urban fabric with its characteristic Y-shape. Dating back to Roman times and later enhanced under Venetian and Austro-Hungarian rule, the canal port is today a lively meeting point where fishing boats and pleasure craft dock. Surrounded by cafes, restaurants, and historic palaces, the port preserves the maritime soul of the "Isola del Sole": here you can witness the return of boats laden with fish and the daily life of the fishermen. It is the ideal starting point for exploring the lagoon, offering a picturesque glimpse that combines tourist elegance with authentic Adriatic tradition.

While exploring the reserve, you will cross freshwater marshes, extensive saltwater wetlands, reed beds, forests, and meadows. The starting point is the visitor center, one of the most important educational, research, and nature observation centers at an international level, located in the heart of the reserve on Isola della Cona.

A true nature reserve jewel with a lot of tranquility and water all around. A pleasant cycle path runs along the dam, alternatively, you can cycle directly on the dam in sections.
