The first documents attesting to the existence of the village date back to the 10th century and it was located on the right bank of the Po river and was therefore part of the dominions of Piacenza. The continuous change in the course of the Po and the consequent changes in the nature of the land have always influenced the development of the town, therefore, the Landi, at the end of the sixteenth century, decided to permanently divert the course of the river to put an end to the hydraulic disorder of the region. The town thus passed to the left bank of the Po and from that moment found itself at the center of disputes between the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza and that of Milan. The controversy ended only after the arrival of Napoleon, who brought the area into the Lombard orbit. The medieval castle, a square-plan building with four corner towers, was transformed by the Landi into a palace (called Palazzo Vecchio), currently in very poor condition and retains only one of the corner towers.
