Saint Andrew, to whom this church in Teltow – in the immediate vicinity of Berlin – was dedicated, is firmly among the twelve apostles whom Jesus Christ called to follow him. Yet in the biblical accounts, he is often somewhat overshadowed by his far more famous brother: Saint Peter. In the Gospels, we find the calling of the two siblings presented in different ways. According to the text of the Gospel of John (John 1:40-42), Andrew is called first (together with a second, but strangely unnamed, disciple) and then announces to his brother Simon (who would later receive the name Peter, meaning "rock," from Jesus) that he has found the awaited Messiah. The feast of Saint Andrew in the calendar of saints is on November 30th in all major Christian denominations.
