Tips from the Community

Luca N.
May 1, 2026, Malga Paoda

Malga Paoda represents one of the most authentic symbols of Monte Serva and the Belluno mountain tradition. Located at an altitude of 2,046 meters, this solid stone structure serves as a fundamental landmark for hikers ascending the steep grassy slopes starting from Col di Roanza. Although no longer a malga dedicated to intensive grazing, today it offers an essential bivouac and shelter service, positioned just below the main summit. From this natural terrace, the view spans across the entire Valbelluna and the surrounding peaks, offering breathtaking vistas ranging from the Prealps to the walls of the Schiara. It is the ideal place for a regenerating stop, immersed in one of the richest and most varied high-altitude flora in the Belluno Dolomites.

From the summit, the view opens onto the Sedico valley. Read the story of the battle on Mount Tomatico, which you can find posted near the summit cross.

Malga Paoda is located at 1181 m on the mountain of the same name in a panoramic position with respect to the Piave valley in the municipality of Quero. The malga has been recently renovated and used as a farm holiday.

Squeezed between the Piave river and its tributary Tegorzo, Quero was founded in Roman times and then conquered by the Visigoths. It passed to the dominion of the Serenissima in 1339. It houses the Piave museum, dedicated to the Great War.

Schievenin is a fraction of the municipality of Quero Vas, in the province of Belluno. It is located approximately in the middle of the valley of the same name, crossed by the Tegorzo stream. It does not constitute a unitary center since the inhabitants are distributed in various hamlets and scattered houses: in addition to Schievenin itself, located on the banks of the Tegorzo stream, there is Borgo Chiesa, in a higher position (there is the parish church and the museum), Borgo Falladén, at the beginning of the valley of the same name, Borgo Spezia, along the road that goes from Schievenin to Borgo Chiesa (site of the former primary school), Borgo Castel Prada, towards the end of the Prada valley. Location known for sport climbing as it has numerous cliffs.
