This shrine, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, does not derive its name and patronage from one of the many figures venerated as saints. Loreto is an internationally renowned Marian pilgrimage site in central Italy, in the Marche region. However, the town did not become famous due to apparitions of the Virgin Mary, as is the case with Lourdes (1858) in the French Pyrenees or Fatima (1917) in Portugal. The tradition of Marian devotion in Loreto dates back much further: since the end of the 13th century, a building considered to be the birthplace of Mary in Nazareth has been venerated there. According to legend, angels brought the so-called "Santa Casa" from Israel to Loreto – after several stops along the way. The original shrine of Loreto, which served as the model for the chapel shown here, can be found in the komoot system at the following link: + https://www.komoot.com/de-de/highlight/1580848

The 1055 m high Auerberg is arguably the most beautiful vantage point in the Pfaffenwinkel region. Especially on clear days with a foehn wind, it, with its medieval St. George's Church and cozy panoramic inn, is a destination for many drivers and hikers. From the church tower's viewing platform, you have a sweeping view of the entire German Alps. Source: https://www.bernbeuren.de/tourismus/kultur-/-sehenswertes/auerberg
