Leuchtenburg Castle

Highlight • Castle

The way up is rocky and steep. Arrived there is a magnificent view of the Adige Valley and Lake Caldaro. I recommend taking enough drinks, there is no catering upstairs. Sturdy shoes are recommended.

Castel d'Enna

Highlight • Castle

It was the year 1172 when Bishop Albert von Trient gave the Lords of Enn permission to build a castle above Montan. The noblemen were already in possession of Castelfeder, which at that time had already fallen into serious disrepair. This is how their new residence was created in a more protected place, which went hand in hand with the castle hat, i.e. the safeguarding of the Truden area. Count Meinhard II finally conquered the castle in the 13th century and drove out the lords of Enn, whose trace is lost in the course of history: the Counts of Tyrol took over.
In 1648 the castle, like other South Tyrolean castles, became the property of Pietro Zenobio, from whom the Tyrolean sovereign had taken out a loan. The Tyrolean nobility protested. But Enn Castle remained in the possession of the Venetian patrician family, whose descendants had the complex expanded in the neo-Gothic style in 1880. It is still owned by the family of Baron Rubin de Cervin-Albrizzi and cannot be visited: once a year, however, the Montan band gives its traditional palace concert in the inner courtyard, which is also open to the public.

Kaldiff Castle, like Enn Castle near Montan, probably dates back to the 12th century and the Lords of Enn, who were then the court lords of Neumarkt. In the 15th century they had it rebuilt, but a little later, in 1524, they gave it to the nobles of Payr von Altenburg: They converted Kaldiff into a residential complex and from then on called themselves Payr von Kaldiff. At the end of the 18th century a fire destroyed the castle. In 1870 the keep fell into disrepair, and hardly anything of the ring wall can be seen anymore. Today you can get a glimpse of the magnificent building of yesteryear.
