A very beautiful place. The oldest spears in human history were found here at the brown coal open-cast mining site. The Schöningen spears are around 300,000 years old and are among the most important archaeological finds in the world. They are the oldest completely preserved wooden weapons in human history.

Great stopping point when hiking 🥾 or cycling. Beautiful view of the former open-cast mine and the modern Paleon, which houses a scientific institute and a restaurant with a beautiful outdoor terrace.

Don't drive over the bridge too quickly, the poor surface and the tight curve offer the potential for a trip into the ditch. The good asphalt encouraged us to use the momentum heading west.
