Anyone traveling 1.2 kilometers west from Unterschurbach into the forest near Hundslohe will come across a remarkable natural monument: the "Wackelstein" (rocking stone), also known as the "Edelmannstein" (nobleman's stone). According to a statement from the Fichtelgebirge Association (FGV) Ebnath, the noblemen of Ebnath and Schwarzenreuth hid their treasures here to protect them from the plundering Hussites. The legend of the "Deep Well," where the treasure chests are said to still rest, persists to this day. Since the old wooden plaque there was quite weathered, the Ebnath branch of the FGV decided in 2023 to have it redesigned. A good opportunity arose during the development of the "Pfarrer-Hupfer-Weg" (Pastor Hupfer Trail) when the chairman passed by Alois Vetter's garden and noticed a forked branch from a plum tree that had been felled by a storm. In Rainhold Seidel from Tröstau, the then-chairman of the Fichtelgebirgsverein (FGV), Martin Exner, found an artist who carved the new inscription into a larch wood plaque and decorated it with a seven-pointed star. The description reads: "Wobbly rock, formerly known as the Edelmannstein, weighing 100 tons, can be set in motion by one person. Please do not damage mosses and lichens! FGV OG Ebnath." The Wartinger company contributed a stainless steel anchor for securing the rock in the ground, and the Plannerer company donated a cover to protect it from rain. Trail warden Gerd König also installed two signs indicating the nearest destinations.
