Tips from the Community

Roy
May 3, 2025, Festplatz am Kindelsbrunnen

The Kindelsbrunnen Festival was celebrated on the square every July. After the farm track leading to the Ganerb was paved in 1957, the Gommersheim residents celebrated this event the following year with a large festival at the Kindelsbrunnen fountain. This "Kindelsbrunnen Festival" was very popular in the community itself, as well as in neighboring villages. Since then, it has not only been a fixture in Gommersheim's events calendar, but has also become a popular social event in the region, even beyond Gommersheim's borders. The Kindelsbrunnen Festival has been discontinued for several years.

On the Gommersheim Ganerb, there is a cultural monument unique to our region: a draw well, a type commonly found in Eastern Europe. The well, with its unusual lifting mechanism, formerly called the "cow well" in Gommersheim, is very old; the year 1574 is carved into the sandstone trough. For centuries, the well served primarily as a watering hole when the Gommersheim residents grazed their cattle on the Ganerb, about three kilometers from the village. When arable land and meadows were established here in the 19th century, farmers could water their draft animals at the well and probably also quench their own thirst.

According to the information board, the fallen soldiers of the Battle of Speyerbach on November 15, 1703 were buried here in several mass graves by the farmers of the surrounding villages. Other stone crosses are said to have been erected in the neighboring communities for the same reason.

There are two guest rooms. When the weather is nice, there is still space outside under the shady trees. There are Palatinate specialties, changing daily specials, various types of coffee and home-made cakes. There is also draft beer from a local brewery and delicious Palatinate wines from the Meckenheim wine region. There is a large playground for the kids. A disabled toilet, a changing table and circular paths suitable for strollers. Private parties can also be organized.

Typical Palatinate: Open all day Wed to Sun, wide selection away from the villages in the forest and very cosy.
