Open to unrestricted use until May 2025. It's very special for e-bikes. Ladies should bring a sturdy rack. It's a tight squeeze for wide handlebars. Access is more like a disastrous farm track than a "bike path." Have fun on your tours!

The Ludewig Basin in Rostock's city harbor is getting a new 180-meter-long promenade. Where concrete remains and wild growth currently dominate the scene, in just 18 months people will be able to stroll and enjoy the view of the Warnow. Dr. Chris Müller, Senator for Finance, Administration and Order of the Hanseatic City of Rostock, is delighted: "The area of the Ludewig Basin was for a long time unsightly wasteland that marked the eastern end of the city harbor for many locals and guests. The new promenade will now close this gap. In this way, a very attractive new piece of waterfront is being created that Rostock residents and tourists alike will surely soon discover for themselves." The actual construction work is now beginning with the necessary demolition work and the new bank protection. For this purpose, a

The lakeside promenade is lined with picturesque neoclassical villas. A number of hotels have been built here in the style of seaside resort architecture. One of the oldest hotels on the promenade is the Hotel Hübner. It was built in 1852 as a residence and bathhouse by the shipowner Friedrich Gustav Hübner from Rostock. Two other impressive buildings on the promenade are the Heinkel Villa and the Weather Service Villa. The house at Seestrasse 15 is the so-called "Heinkel Villa". This house was built in 1880 and purchased by the aircraft engineer Ernst Heinkel in 1930. Today the "Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde" is located here. To the right of the Heinkel Villa is the Weather Service building. You can recognize it by the measuring devices on the roof and in the dunes. This “weather house” was once the former summer residence of the well-known Rostock schnapps manufacturer Conrad Lehment, who created the double caraway specialty “Mann un Fru”.
