The building is located immediately before the Camozzi Vertova Castle, and was originally the “Casa degli Zoppi”, a noble family sent by the Municipality of Bergamo to Costa Mezzate, as Valvassini. The building was built in the 13th - 14th century and enlarged in the 16th; it was rebuilt in the eighteenth century and underwent considerable changes over time until today. The building has an irregular polygon-shaped plan with a small internal courtyard on the first floor. It was divided into two distinct areas: the first intended for noble use (access from the main entrance) and the second for service use (north-east entrance). The main wing is spread over three floors served by two staircases. The main hall has a rectangular plan and is completely frescoed with depictions of architectural elements that create perspective effects.

Originally, the Torre degli Zoppi was a defensive structure that belonged to the fortified complex called “Rasetto”, owned by the noble Bergamo Zoppi family. The name "Rasetto" derives from the word "ricetto", which indicated a place of welcome and refuge. In fact, the Rasetto was used to welcome the local population, mostly peasants, in moments of attack from the outside. It can be assumed that the Rasetto was originally a place defended by wooden palisades and a moat. In the thirteenth century the construction of the village began and on that occasion the Rasetto was reinforced by stone walls; the tower was a defensive corner within this wall. Over the centuries, the Rasetto and the Tower changed their function and from defensive structures they gradually became homes for the local population.
