On this section of the E4 it goes steeply uphill to the Refugio A. But mostly through forest and therefore quite shady. Unfortunately with little view.

It's directly on the E4 when you come up the Enipeas gorge. Refill your water supplies; it's steep uphill from here.

The monastery is partially rebuilt and is still being restored. You can walk through the courtyard. The upper floors are not accessible and are reserved for the monks.

On the way from Orlias Waterfall to Red Rock Waterfall, there is a bench on the side for a little break. Opposite, slightly off to the side, there is a drinking fountain for refilling water bottles. Since the Olympus Marathon is taking place on 26.6.2026 from Dion to Litochoro over the Olympic Mountains, the trail had been freshly marked and this drinking fountain had been designated as a refreshment point.

Shortly before entering the National Park, coming from Litochoro, you have to cross the river for the first time without a bridge if you are on the wrong side. There are 3 more river crossings, where the bridges are destroyed and not rebuilt. Basically, all crossings can be done barefoot without any problems. It would be ideal if you have swimming shoes with you. The stones are very slippery and the current is sometimes very strong. In addition, depending on the water level, you may find yourself walking in water up to your knees. The refreshment is free.

The monastery has been destroyed several times and is always rebuilt. With EU funds, more than just security measures could be implemented by 2020. Currently, a monk lives on site who grants admission. At the entrance, cloaks are available to cover bare shoulders, cleavage, and uncovered knees. It remains a holy place.

Many trails in Pieria are suitable for hiking with dogs, especially in the lower mountain and forest areas. However, always ensure your dog is on a leash, particularly in protected areas like Mount Olympus National Park, and be mindful of local wildlife and other hikers. It's advisable to check specific trail regulations or local signage before heading out.
