The Ludwig Canal (Ludwig-Donau-Main-Kanal, also called Ludwigskanal or regionally "Alter Kanal") was a 172.4 km long waterway in the 19th and 20th centuries between the Danube near Kelheim and the Main near Bamberg. In a broader sense, the canal, built between 1836 and 1846, was part of a navigable connection between the North Sea near Rotterdam and the Black Sea near Constanța. By crossing the European main watershed, the ambitious construction project held a special position. 100 locks, partly in the rivers Altmühl and Regnitz, overcame a total difference in altitude of 264 meters (80 m ascent from the Danube and 184 m descent to the Main). The successor to the canal, which was abandoned in 1950, is the Main-Danube Canal, built from 1960 to 1992.

The Petz’sche Schloss is a historic castle in Schwarzenbruck in the Nürnberger Land district. Sandstone stands east of the town center and is surrounded by the Schwarzach. Characteristic are the corner turrets, which over the years have been combined into a typical Nuremberg manor house style. The castle has a sprung moat, a baroque enclosure, and a historic chapel from the early 19th century.[1] It was the seat of a Masonic lodge. The estate also includes an economy yard, former servants' houses, and a barn. The listed building is included in the List of Monuments in Schwarzenbruck of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation and described as follows: "Former manor seat, so-called von Petzsches Schloss, three-winged, freely visible sandstone ashlar building, closed off by a boundary wall to the courtyard; main building, three-story gable roof building with a hip, dormers and shed dormers, wing buildings, narrow, two-story gable roof buildings with three-story rectangular towers with pyramid roofs, in the core 2nd half of the 16th century, expansion of the wing buildings in the 17th century; bridge, one-arched sandstone ashlar bridge, 2nd half of the 16th century/18th century; fortification, foundation walls of the castle moat, sandstone ashlar masonry, 2nd half of the 16th century/18th century; economy yard, closed row of residential buildings and barns, single-story gable roof buildings, partly sandstone ashlar, partly half-timbered, 18th century/early 19th century, No. 3 dated 1861, No. 6 built 1798, No. 7 and 8 built 1800; residential building, two-story steep gable roof building with sandstone ashlar ground floor, half-timbered upper floor and small bell tower with a hip roof, on the east side a half-timbered dormer with a gable roof, 18th century; barn, sandstone ashlar building with a steep gable roof, half-timbered gable and flat dormers, around 1730; enclosure of the economy yard, sandstone ashlar wall with a rounded end and rectangular pillars with cap tops, 18th century"

The Black 7, eastern section! 😃 A large portion of the trail has been lost or significantly widened due to tractors and harvesters. Caution: This makes it difficult to ride during muddy seasons.
