The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Arad laid its foundation stone in March 1905 and the construction of the church was completed in September 1906. The town hall of Arad was built between 1872 and 1876 according to the plans of the Budapest architect Ödön Lechner. Due to the economic crisis that began in 1873, Lechner's original plans were changed and the building was made somewhat smaller. Designed in an eclectic style, the town hall is particularly impressive due to the 54-meter-high tower in the middle and, inside, the lavishly renovated council chamber with portraits of the Romanian royal couple Ferdinand and Maria, which were installed in the 1920s, as well as the stained glass windows dating back to Hungarian times.
