Even on my last tour, the mill with the small chapel looked abandoned, but now there is also a "For Sale" sign next to it. A real shame, by the way, for these historic buildings in a fantastic natural landscape.

Great hiking trail through the gorge, adventurous over stones, bridges and rope-secured climbing sections. Very rustic and natural landscape with a few waterfalls.

Origin: The complex dates back to the 12th century (approx. 1158–1160) and was later expanded into a moated castle. Renovation: In the mid-19th century, the banking family Clemens had the complex redesigned into a country estate in the Neo-Gothic style. Naming: The castle received its current name from Baron Theodor von Liebieg, who married into the owner family at the end of the 19th century. Architecture: Particularly worth seeing are the castle chapel (built in 1892) and the extensive castle park with old trees. Kulturland Rheinland-Pfalz Kulturland Rheinland-Pfalz +5 Current Status (as of 2026) The castle has been undergoing a process of reorientation for several years, which is important for visitors to know: Limited Viewing: Following a change of ownership in 2019, there are plans for a boutique hotel and upscale gastronomy. However, current reports indicate that the complex has periodically been a construction site and the grounds are often not freely accessible to the public. Winery: High-quality Mosel wines are produced under the name Schlossgut Liebieg (in cooperation with Weingut Kirsten). However, the winery itself is partly located in Klüsserath. Events: In the past, the castle was known as an exhibition venue for furniture ("Home Design Lifestyle") and as an event location for weddings in the Spiegelsaal.

On the way through the Erbach Valley, you pass the Schönecker Mill, which was once a rest stop. But from the looks of things, that's a thing of the past.
