It's crazy..... 🫣 At this place, visitors are asked to be quiet (rightly so, because it's a sacred place) and at the same time, airplanes thunder overhead 😂.

It's crazy. You're standing in the Cueva Hermano Pedro, planes are thundering overhead, and a sign asks visitors to "Silencio" (silence) 😂

It's very tidy here, and a very devout place.

We had planned a hike marked as easy, starting from this point. Unfortunately, as people with knee problems, we couldn't climb the first rock. What a shame.

I was able to walk there unhindered. A dirt road leads directly there. I was here a few years ago. Back then, remnants of the mirrored surfaces were still visible. Now, nothing remains, just a rusty skeleton. But still impressive.

Its wrong title. The road is called : Cueva del Pedro, which is a small village with few houses. On the way you pass by not only the Airport South of Tenerife, but also banana plantations.

I think this is a reference to the fishing village

Granadilla de Abona offers a highly varied terrain for gravel biking. You'll encounter a mix of coastal plains, rocky volcanic landscapes, and ascents towards the slopes of Teide National Park. The south of Tenerife, where Granadilla de Abona is located, is known for its dry, rocky surfaces, ancient lava fields, and even black sand areas, providing a diverse and engaging ride.
While all currently listed no-traffic gravel routes are rated as moderate due to elevation gain and distance, the lack of traffic makes them safer for families with experienced younger riders. For example, the Montaña Pelada Trail loop from El Médano offers a scenic ride with coastal views, but be prepared for some elevation changes.
Many natural areas in Granadilla de Abona are dog-friendly, but specific regulations can vary. It's always best to keep your dog on a leash, especially in protected natural spaces or areas with wildlife. Ensure your dog is fit enough for the distance and elevation, and always carry enough water for both of you.
The region is rich in natural beauty. You might encounter iconic volcanic formations like Montaña Pelada, which is featured on the Montaña Pelada Trail loop from El Médano. Other notable natural monuments in the wider area include Cañada de la Camilleta and El Burro. As you gain elevation, you'll also find stunning panoramic views of the coast and the Atlantic.
Yes, all the no-traffic gravel bike trails currently listed are loop routes, starting and ending in the same location, typically El Médano. This makes planning your ride and parking much more convenient. An example is the Abandoned Solar Reflector – Tajao Rock Formation loop from El Médano.
Granadilla de Abona enjoys a mild climate year-round, making it suitable for gravel biking in most seasons. However, the cooler months from autumn to spring (October to May) are generally preferred, as summer temperatures can be quite high, especially in the more exposed volcanic areas. Always check the local weather forecast before heading out.
Many of the no-traffic gravel bike routes, such as the Cave Settlement – Cave of Brother Pedro loop from El Médano, typically start from El Médano, a popular coastal town. You can usually find public parking areas there, though it can get busy during peak season. Always check local signage for parking restrictions and fees.

Reviewers often praise the unique volcanic landscapes, the quietness of the trails away from traffic, and the stunning coastal and mountain views that offer a truly immersive riding experience.
Absolutely. Granadilla de Abona is a geological wonderland. Beyond the well-known Red Mountain, you can explore areas with ancient lava fields and unique rock formations. The Abandoned Solar Reflector – Tajao Rock Formation loop from El Médano, for instance, takes you past interesting geological sites. The region also boasts natural monuments like Roque Cinchado and the unique La Catedral rock formation further up towards Teide National Park.
Many of the routes start and end in El Médano, which is a vibrant town with numerous cafes, restaurants, and shops where you can refuel before or after your ride. As you venture onto the trails, especially those heading inland or higher up, amenities become scarcer, so it's essential to carry sufficient water and snacks.
