The Air Garrison Unit in Debrzno was stationed for 48 years (1954-2002). Initially, the 11th Fighter Aviation Regiment was formed in the city, later becoming the 9th Air Force Regiment. The unit was commanded for the longest time by Lieutenant Colonel pilot Mieczysław Tabola, and the last garrison commander was Major Stefan Sawczak. The first combat aircraft flight over Debrzno took place on October 10, 1954. Between 1950 and 1987, there were four commanders of the 11th Fighter Aviation Regiment, 22 Garrison commanders (1954-2002), 16 recipients of the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Polish Air Defence, 11 Pilots of the Year, and 13 distinguished servicemen. The Garrison had 236 aircraft in service, including: Lim-1 (22 pcs.), Lim-2 (47 pcs.), Lim-5 (12 pcs.), Lim-5P (9 pcs.), CS-102 (6 pcs.), SBLim-1 (5 pcs.), SBLim-2 (2 pcs.), UTI-MiG-15/UMiG-15 (9 pcs.), MiG-21F-13 (6 pcs.), MiG-21PF (16 pcs.), MiG-21PFM (12 pcs.), MiG-21M (33 pcs.), MiG-21MF (16 pcs.), MiG-21U (1 pc.), MiG-21US (2 pcs.), MiG-21UM (13 pcs.), Yak-11 (6 pcs.), TS-8 "Bies" (4 pcs.), TS-11 "Iskra" (10 pcs.), Po-2 (1 pc.), An-2T (4 pcs.) By order of Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army No. 055/org. of September 27, 1988, the 9th Fighter Aviation Regiment (JW. 3779) was disbanded on January 31, 1989. The unit's last assembly took place on January 21. Several attempts were made to develop the airfield and even reactivate the 9th Fighter Aviation Regiment.
