April 12, 2026, Finckenstein Palace

The castle gained greater fame through the stay of Napoleon Bonaparte, who used it as his headquarters during the Fourth Coalition War from April to June 1807. When he first saw the castle, Napoleon exclaimed: „Enfin un château“ (Finally a castle). The Treaty of Finckenstein between France and Persia was also signed at this location. Napoleon spent his time at Finckenstein Castle with the Polish Countess Maria Walewska. After Friedrich Alexander Graf Dohna-Schlobitten, the son-in-law of Count Finckenstein, Alexander II von Dohna and then his second son Wilhelm Graf Dohna took over the Finckenstein estate.

Schloss Finckenstein (Polish Kamieniec) was a Baroque palace built in 1720 in the former Rosenberg district in West Prussia, about seven kilometers northeast of Rosenberg, today located in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. Since 1945, the castle has been a ruin.

Historic palace of Napoleon. Can't enter inside, but is a nice stop to look at.

Next to the tower there is a shelter with bicycle racks.

A great road as long as drivers drive slowly. In July, when it's dry and hot, this road is terribly dusty. All it takes is one lunatic and we're covered in white dust 😁.

Massive cobblestones. Unless you're ready for a 3km+ deep prostate massage, I recommend skipping this section.
