June 4, 2026, View of the Martwa Wisła

The Vistula breakthrough marks one of the most impressive interventions in the river landscape. In 1895, a new, direct outlet of the Vistula into the sea was created here to prevent floods in the delta. Today, the breakthrough looks like a natural coastal river: wide, powerful, and constantly in motion. Along the path, you can feel the vastness of the estuary, seagulls circle over the water, and the Baltic Sea already opens up on the horizon. A quiet, yet historically significant section of any tour around Sobieszewo.

The church building in half-timbered style in Sobieszewo (Bohnsack), was forcibly expropriated in 1947 in favor of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland. In 1985 it burned down and was subsequently rebuilt in the same location in a modern architectural style. A figure of the "Weeping Mother of God" is venerated in the church, which was brought here in 1961 from Dębowiec. In the cemetery, old German gravestones of Protestant church elders can still be found today. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sobieszewo
