The Bolesławiec Gate Tower was probably built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. It was rebuilt in the 16th century. The tower served for a long time as a hunger dungeon, then as an ice warehouse, to become a roofless ruin before World War II. After World War II, the tower was rebuilt, and in the 1970s, the tower served as a studio for local artist Mieczysław Żołądź. In 2018, the tower and defensive walls underwent a comprehensive renovation consisting of cleaning the stone and replacing the roof covering.

The church was founded by Duke Henry I the Bearded in 1238. A chapel was added in 1444. As a result of a fire in 1752, the vaults collapsed, which were replaced by a ceiling. Today it is a valuable monument of Gothic architecture with a distinct Romanesque accent, especially in the form of two towers on the side of the entrance.

The tower was built in the 13th century as one of three towers defending the city gates. It is the highest of the preserved city towers. The tower was rebuilt many times. 16th century construction errors caused it to collapse in 1616, damaging the gate. It was rebuilt the same year, over the next few months. In 1752, the tower was destroyed by fire, as was most of the city. After 32 years of reconstruction, it acquired its appearance similar to today.
