Great perspective for a long view south into the American River Canyon from the western ridge. Pioneer Express trail connects nearby to Shirland Canal Trail to stay on the contour, and also continues parallel to the south and north.

Auburnโ€™s Gold Rush Museum tells the story of the roots this town was founded on. The museum has recently been updated and is open Thursdayโ€“Sunday from 10:30 a.m.โ€“4:00 p.m. The museum is free to get into, but if you're just passing by, it's in a historic area and has a huge statue of a gold miner outside.

Look down on the American River, and imagine hundreds of people panning for gold... About 175 years ago, that would have been your view. With headwaters in Tahoe, this river flowing through Auburn was the birthplace of the California Gold Rush. Today, it's an important water supply for people and an ecosystem for animals.
