Great views!

Early morning or near sunset are great times to run. It can get windy during the day so prepare for a nasty headwind if traveling west.

Ventura City Hall, once the Ventura County Courthouse, sits atop California Street, with views of downtown Ventura, the Santa Barbara Channel, and the Channel Islands. Built between 1912 and 1913, this Neoclassical landmark, designed by architect Albert C. Martin Sr., features exquisite details like white terra cotta panels, whimsical friars' faces, Roman-arched windows, and a copper dome. Inside, admire stained glass skylights and mahogany woodwork in the council chambers. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this architectural treasure has served as City Hall since 1974.

Foster Park is open to hikers and bikers only and boasts rolling green hills, the Ventura River, and lush vegetation. It is a great stop to find some shade. Visitors can enjoy the day-use area, two campgrounds (Residence and Red Mountain), and the Ojai Valley Trail, which passes through the park. On weekends, especially during peak season, the park may close due to capacity, so it’s advised to arrive early. Dogs are allowed on leashes, and facilities include picnic areas, restrooms, and playgrounds.ο»Ώ

A nice viewpoint under the shade of an oak tree just off the Harmon Canyon Road. There's not much in the way of shade when you get into the Northern section of the reserve, so I guess it's a good idea to take it where you find it on the lower slopes!
