Reinhard
November 14, 2024, Robinson Preserve Wooden Bridge

Because of the temperature and the high humidity, I recommend running there in the morning. There is a paved but soft running track in the middle of Robinsons Preserve. Very pleasant to run and beautiful.

This trail takes you along the eastern shore of Nathan Benson Park and is made of crushed shells, providing a smoother and softer surface for your run. If you prefer running on pavement, there's a parallel paved trail, offering plenty of options for your run.

Apart from when there are special events going on (like triathlons, regattas, plane competitions, etc.), Nathan Benderson Park is a completely free park, open to the public seven days a week. The centerpiece of the 600-acre property is without a doubt the 400-acre reservoir. A couple different paths and a road loop around the lake.

Braden River Nature Park is a more low-key spot to enjoy Florida's natural beauty. Fishermen have caught bass here in the ponds around the park, and gopher tortoises, ospreys, and red-shouldered hawks frequent the area. This nature park is more off the beaten path, so it may be an opportunity you can enjoy all to yourself.

Emerson Point Preserve, on the west end of Snead Island, contains a variety of coastal Florida wildlife and their habitats. Explore the peninsula to find the historic remains of its early settlements. This 365-acre, state-owned land has well-maintained trails, tables, grills, and restrooms and can be enjoyed from dawn until dusk.

June 18, 2024, Terra Ceia Bay

Terra Ceia Bay spans 3,868 acres and is a popular recreation destination. At one point, the bay had high mercury levels but is now recovering, yet still labeled a threatened body of water. The fish found here include red snappers, spotted seatrouts, snook, tarpon, and sheepshead, and the bay is made up of seagrass, mangrove forests, and artificial reefs.

While riding by the Terra Ceia Aquatic Preserve wetlands and mangroves, keep an eye out for wildlife; it is teeming here. This area is home to much of Tampa Bay's seagrass and hardbottom acreage and is a hotspot for climate change studies.
