It was in 1732 that “a Royal earthenware factory” was established in the small town of Samadet, which produced earthenware with rich and colorful decorations for more than 100 years. The factory will employ a workforce with specialized know-how and its production will be widely distributed, notably through the port of Bayonne. But, in 1838, the Manufacture could not resist the competition and closed its doors. The museum, created in 1968 by the Earthenware Committee and given to the Department in 1998, preserves the memory of this epic; it tells the history of Samadet earthenware and that of tableware.

Dear Herbert, that's a nice reminder of this beautiful section of the Way of St. James, which we also sweated along today!

A small, probably family-run hotel with a swimming pool in the middle of town. An oasis of relaxation, albeit without air conditioning, which we would have loved to have had in July 2022. Friendly welcome and cultivated French culture! Bicycles can be parked free of charge in the locked and covered inner courtyard. Reservation via email in French and English. simply possible. Double room 70,-. Detailed, very good 3+ course dinner for 30, - was very worthwhile for us! A recommendation from the pilgrim guide that we have not regretted! According to the pilgrim guide, a very old wayside cross is reminiscent of the site of a former hospital where pilgrims were cared for or could spend the night.

You can feel from village to village that we are on the Way of St. James! Colorful glass windows immerse the church in a special light. There used to be a pilgrim hospital in this place too. A crossroads a few kilometers further bears witness to this.
