Very nice bridge not for traffic though as it’s a single lane track with passing gaps for pedestrians.

If riding across bridge into Crick, take the first right hand road (next to the pub) to avoid traffic going up the hill and into town. It also takes you straight tup to the high st.

It was a truly stunning spot to take in the scenery from this elevated panoramic viewpoint. Highly recommended.

A short climb up from the road brings you to the Dam and carpark, there is no access over the Dam itself. But you do get a good view over the spillway and valley below.

South Wales offers a wide selection of traffic-free road cycling routes. On komoot, you'll find over 570 routes specifically curated for road bikes, ranging from easy to difficult, ensuring there's something for every cyclist.
The spring and autumn months generally offer the most pleasant conditions for road cycling in South Wales, with milder temperatures and beautiful scenery. Summer can also be excellent, though popular coastal areas might see more visitors. Winter rides are possible, especially on lower-lying routes, but be prepared for colder, wetter weather and shorter daylight hours.
Yes, South Wales has several excellent options for beginners and families. Routes like sections of the Taff Trail (NCN8) from Cardiff Bay to Merthyr Tydfil, or the bayside path from Swansea to Mumbles Head, offer largely flat, traffic-free experiences. The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal (NCN49) also provides a gentle, family-friendly ride.
While truly 'traffic-free' challenging routes are rare due to the nature of road cycling, South Wales offers many quiet roads with significant climbs. For example, the Lampeter to Llyn Briane Reservoir loop features over 1,400 meters of elevation gain. The Brecon Beacons National Park, with climbs like Gospel Pass and 'The Tumble,' provides demanding ascents on very low-traffic roads.
Many routes pass by significant natural and historical landmarks. For instance, the Llandegfedd Reservoir loop from Usk offers scenic views of the reservoir. Other routes might take you near natural features like Llyn y Fan Fach or the dramatic coastal scenery of the Gower Peninsula.
Absolutely. The diverse landscape of South Wales means many routes offer stunning vistas. In the Brecon Beacons, you can find panoramic views from areas around Fan Brycheiniog summit or Tor y Foel Summit. Coastal routes, particularly around the Gower Peninsula, also provide spectacular sea views.
Yes, many routes are designed to pass through charming towns and villages where you can find cafes, pubs, and shops. The Taff Trail, for example, connects several communities with refreshment stops. Even in more remote areas, you might find hidden gems like the Dolygaer Activity Centre, which offers a cafe.
Parking availability varies by route. Many trailheads for popular traffic-free paths, such as sections of the Taff Trail or routes within the Brecon Beacons, offer designated parking areas. It's advisable to check specific route details on komoot for parking information, often found in the route description or comments section.
Public transport access is available for many routes, especially those connecting urban centers. For instance, the Taff Trail is easily accessible from Cardiff via train, allowing you to start your ride directly from the city. Some rural routes might require a car, but many towns along major cycling paths are served by bus or train networks.
Yes, many of the best traffic-free road cycling experiences in South Wales are circular. Routes like the Three Peaks loop around the Skirrid, the Sugar Loaf and the Blorenge or the Llandovery to River Cothi Valley loop are designed as loops, bringing you back to your starting point without retracing your steps.
The komoot community highly rates road cycling in South Wales, with an average score of 4.5 stars from over 1,300 ratings. Cyclists frequently praise the region's diverse scenery, from dramatic mountains to serene river valleys and stunning coastlines.
