A start of a beautiful route to Maastricht, both for walking and cycling. We did both, cycling last.

In the artwork, they wanted to depict two important periods in Groningen's history in a single image: the Middle Ages and the Industrial Revolution. Both periods were crucial to Groningen's development and prosperity, with a prominent role reserved for a typically Groningen raw material: clay. Therefore, they reused 19th-century bricks for the work. From both directions of the N361, the work looks different: from Winsum, you can clearly see a medieval church, while from Wehe-den-Hoorn, the outlines of a 19th-century brickworks appear. As one approaches the sculpture from either direction, it changes; it appears ephemeral and increasingly dilapidated, until only a memory remains.

You can sit inside or outside. They have a wide selection of teas, but they also serve coffee and cappuccino. Friendly staff served me quite quickly. Not too expensive.
