DE STEEG – The new cycle path (report from 2015) through the Havikerwaard near De Steeg will be called Schoonoordpad. The council agreed to this last week. The cycle path is public and giving it a name increases its findability. The path is located on the grounds of Middachten and the Gestichten van Weldadigheid. When searching for a name, the history of the area was examined. It is known that there used to be a farm halfway along the path. Research by the Oudheidkundige Kring Rheden Rozendaal has shown that the farm that once stood there was called Schoonoord. The farm was owned by Derk Pieper in 1832. The path runs largely over the grounds of the former farm. Historically speaking, Schoonoordpad is a fitting and responsible name.
