A well-stocked organic shop where many goods can be bought without packaging. We replenished our supplies of muesli and trail mix here and bought two pieces of quiche for lunch. There is also a toilet and water to fill bottles with.

In Varilhes, the community centre houses a centre for the history of the Resistance and Deportation. Opening hours see website. When we passed by, the door was coincidentally open and a woman was present, although the centre would normally only be open in the afternoon. So, exceptionally, we were allowed to see the current exhibition on the history of the children of Hille Castle. These are (Jewish) children from Austria, Germany and Spain who were housed in the castle (1941-1945) by the Swiss Red Cross due to the events of the Second World War / Spanish Civil War. They are photos that these children took to document their lives. Cameras were made available to them. We were moved to read familiar surnames. It is gratifying that children were saved from persecution in this way. Quote from Saint Exupéry: „The free struggle and annihilation in the night are not comparable.“ At the same time, we thought of children from Palestine who today are trying to document their lives under occupation by similar means. —— And here is some additional information regarding a teacher from Switzerland who taught here and later established a home for children in Vienna in a villa in Hadersdorf. She was honoured as a "Righteous Among the Nations". https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elisabeth_Eidenbenz# Contact: +33 5 61690260; centrehistoire@agglo-pfv.fr; www.resitance-ariege.fr

The access to the jetty is very narrow with the pillar. With a bicycle with panniers, you have to be slow and careful.

Looks like an old church that was later redesigned in Neo-Gothic style.

The entrance to this section is marked as a dead end from all sides. Nowhere is there any indication that cyclists can pass here.
